Frustration

I set up my Emigrant Direct account last week, but somehow inverted two of the numbers on my actual bank account, so none of the transfers could go through. Since then I've corresponded with customer service like 5 times to send them the new account number, fax them a voided check, correct the information and set up a new transfer.

Then this morning, I get another notice from them that my account number is STILL wrong and that I need to fax them a voided check. Ugh! I already did that! I'm so frustrated. Why aren't things easier? I was so excited to get this investment started, and now I'm just angry that it's so complicated.

Sorry you are having such a tough time. Tales like this are why I consistantly recommend ING Direct. I know, I know, the interest rate is lower - but everyone agrees the customer service and usability of the site is superior.

I also use HSBC Direct - the interest rate is high and they are a much bigger shop than Emigrant and I have heard they have decent customer service reps.

I've had an account with EmigrantDirect just over a year now and I've had no problems. Hang in there!

This is why I'm a fan of ING Direct. Like Boston Gal, I know the interest rate is a little lower, but to me good customer service and ease of transacions is worth that difference. And like I said before, ING's CD's are fabulous because if you end up needing the $ sooner, the only penalty is half the interest earned up to that point.

Good luck!

I use gmacbank.com and it's great. Their APY is 5.30% now.

Another happy GMAC customer here.

I've been with EmigrantDirect for almost a year and haven't had any problems. Always a great rate with them and they actually do social good (like: http://www.lexdon.com/article/EmigrantDirect_Placing_Their_Corporate_Donations/8085.html).

I hope they straighten things out for you quickly (though with bank account numbers, I actually hope they do things cautiously...don't want the crooks to be able to make easy changes to steal your money).

Sounds like my experience trying to set up direct deposit with my bank. Please see the dialog in

Just start over from scratch and make a new account with ED. I did that, and it worked. I had previous account with them that I thought I closed out, but it turned out there was a couple bucks left in it. I started a new one, and then when I logged on, I saw that I had two.

Another consideration is an e-loan savings account, currently 5.50%. I recently opened an account. The process was as smooth as a newborn babie's butt.
